My own idiosyncratic list of the greatest thinkers of all time is quite complicated. I can only do it through historical timeline, starting with the earliest: (1) Confucius (harmony), Laozi (ego transcendence), Socrates (dialectics); (2) Zhu Xi (vital force and rational principle); (3) Da Vinci (the last all-round genius), Descartes (rationalism); (4) Rousseau (social contract), Hegel (phenomenology of mind), Marx (bending Hegel to the left); (5) Nietzsche (existence), Sartre (existence with a radical inclination); (6) Anthony Wilden (post-modernist dialectics); (7) You and me.
